The "Women" series is an ongoing collection of portraits of women in my life. Inspired by the powerful messages of Annie Leibovitz's iconic collection, the following images seek to define the connection women share with one another. Growing up, there was a strong feminine presence in my life, from the neighbors two-doors down, to my caregivers, and then on to the teachers and mentors throughout my childhood and adolescence. The coven of women was introduced then even as a small child, and continues on even as an adult, and never once have I not felt the power generated in an almost unearthly way. We put on our colors, and put on our warpaint; love unconditionally; and bring forth a fury in pain and anger; feel pain in love and sorrow; and joy in life and creation. The identity of something "female" or "feminine" is more than something to be determined by sexual or gender orientation or preference. It's more than the face we put on for the world, the physical and metaphysical strength we possess in taking on the world. It's the life we bring in to the world, and continue to share.
